LoTD beta content

Post by makemeunreal »

As most of the games, Land of the Dead had a "beta" stage too.
A game's beta stage can differ in many ways from the final product.
Here's a few shots that shows things that didn't make the final cut:

Jack used to have gloves:

The crosshair used to turn red when targeting a zombie/getting damage?!

Different zombie in the outro:

A lot of skins, items, weapons and maps got cut:

I took the shots from the official trailer for the game:

Interesting things you've noticed. I only noticed that the hammer wasnt included in the game.
The Rifle texture seems to have remained the same, but they changed the colour. The hand glove was neat. Typical for a farmer.

I only noticed that the Kaufman and TVReporter character was only used in the game videos/trailers but not the game.
The Animations for Kaufman and the Reporter does exist in the DOTZACinematicsCharacters.ukx, but the Textures did not come with the game.

An old player that went by DemianUG did take the Kaufman animation, changed the bones and made it into a zombie character.
Skin textures were made in Paint probably. Pink skin. I used Kaufmans face and turned it into a player character.

In this file, DOTZTZombies.MaleDoctor.MaleDoctorHeadB the MaleDoctorHeadB texture was not used in anything that came with the game.
I may have added it on a few maps but thats it.

Thank you for such a long and informational post!

I managed to get in touch with one of the developers. So, we may even get some of those textures back, or even the hammer!
He has already stated that the game had to be cut so they could meet with the deadline.

Its amazing you were so interested to notice these things and make contact with them. I contacted two Devs but they havent replied. There was a guy on Google+ that had all his projects listed there, LOTD included. Jared Smith and Jessie were two dev names i think i remember?

@eblade was in contact with a dev recently i think. Even though everyone moved away from LOTD and it doesnt present such a big interest, it would be sweet to release everything and continue to maintain the community.

We are on the same opinion then. Yeah, Smith was one.
Wonder where the Theater got it's name from? :P

Hm? The map? Its a Theatre.. Dont know lol.

Oh, another thing to mention, which you might know, is that the game we know as LOTD originally started as DOTZ (Day of the Zombie). That is why all the game files have the DOTZ prefix instead of LOTD. But the Universal Studios needed a game after the movie and they changed DOTZ into LOTD. Made a new set of maps with the DOTZ contents. Four years after LOTD was released, in 2009, DOTZ was finally released... But only in Russia iirc. It was released with a dead master server and the http://master.dayofthezombie.com domain was parked. I think that was the MS address. GrooveGames was being sold at that time. Its a wonder they managed to release it.

Nice stuff.

Well, the theatre is called Jared Smith center of performing arts maybe?!
You can hear this when opening the curtains. :D (And in the radio show too as they mention it being a safe zone)
