Resident Evil: Remembrance

Chapter 1: Lost N' Found

Emily squeezed Robin's arm tighter as another explosion shook the building. The streets were littered with rubble and fires from the chaos that was ensuing outside. Robin couldn't tell how much longer they would be safe. The guy on the television said that the military had quarantined Raccoon City and that people should remain in their homes till rescue arrives, but that was a few hours ago and the situation seems to have gotten even worse. Robin didn't want to leave and put them at risk of getting eaten by those walking corpses, especially Emily who was eight months pregnant. He was already worried that the stress of the situation could cause problems for her. But he also knew that if they didn't leave there might be the chance that help won't come...

"We have to leave Rob," Emily whispered causing Robin to jump out of thought. He acknowledged her with a nod. He then got up and checked out the window. "There are about twenty just wandering out on the streets," he informed her as she was grabbing their backpacks from the closet. They had just returned from a camping trip so the backpacks were still full of dirty clothes. Emily emptied out the clothes onto the floor as Robin walked by towards the kitchen. Robin opened one of the cupboards and grabbed as much canned food as he could and brought it to Emily in the bedroom. Another explosion shook the building causing Robin to drop the canned food on the floor. They quickly picked them up and Emily put them in the bags as Robin checked on the situation outside. Emily then grabbed some clothes, flashlights, and some other things she felt that were important. Robin grabbed a baseball bat as Emily finished packing and he opened the front door. He popped his head out and scanned the hall, "All clear!" He shouted to Emily. She handed him one backpack and threw her backpack over her shoulder. "Ready?" He asked. She smiled and grabbed his hand, "yup." Robin smiled also and they moved out into the hall.

Robin could see that the majority of the apartments' doors were open and some were even boarded shut. The hall was littered with broken glass and random papers. Some furniture was also laying in the hall. They assumed people were using them as a way to slow the zombies down. It was also very dark in the hall because the lights were smashed in the battles that occurred earlier that day. Robin led the way as Emily stayed close behind. They jumped when a can rolled out from one apartment and they stopped, waiting for whatever it was to walk into view. They waited about half a minute before another explosion happened. This time the explosion must of been right next to the building because the building shook a lot more, causing the two to lose balance. Robin quickly got up though and helped Emily up, making sure she wasn't hurt. They slowly moved towards the apartment where the can came from and began to hear scuffling from the apartment. They stopped but Robin felt they were taking too long. "Wait here," he told Emily as he began to move towards the apartment. Before he reached the door a zombie scuffled out. Robin stopped with his bat ready and the zombie stopped looking at the floor. The zombie then twitched as if he just caught their scent. It began sniffing the air a bit and then turned towards them. Robin made eye contact with the zombie and it let out a cry of joy as it reached out and began moving towards him. Robin hesitated, not sure what to do. He knew that he would have to kill the poor soul but it still felt like he was about to kill another person. "Rob!" Emily shouted snapping him out of the thought. The zombie was almost on top of him when he swung. He hit the zombie right in the side of the head causing it to fly right into the wall and drop to the floor. Robin made sure to finish it off by beating it some more with the bat before he turned around to call Emily. But when he turned around he saw a zombie right behind Emily as she was smiling, looking at him.

"Noooo!" Robin yelled as he ran towards her. Emily turned around, confused. The zombie quickly lunged at her and knocked her, as she screamed, over and landed on top of her. She raised the zombie a bit, while screaming for help, trying to push it off. Robin then swung the bat at the zombie, hitting it on the side of it's skull, sending it flying off her into the wall next to them. Emily quickly crawled, backwards, to Robin. Robin helped her up and started beating the zombie some more to make sure it was dead. He looked back at Emily, nervous that she or the baby were hurt but luckily, though winded, she was alright. He grabbed her hand and they continued down the hall. They were lucky enough to reach the lobby without coming across anymore monsters, but the front entrance of the lobby was blocked by a fire truck that must of been used to keep something out, or to keep something in. This thought scared Robin.

"What should we do now?" Emily asked him. "I don't know... Maybe there is a back door somewhere." He replied as he looked around, while holding her, for a door. He noticed a door behind the desk and pointed it out to Emily. "How about there?" He asked and she nodded. They both ran over to the door, not wasting time, and she opened the door quickly while Robin ran in, prepared to swing at anything that moved. Luckily the room was clear. The room appeared to be a large supply room with four doors including the one they entered from. Robin decided they should try the one opposite of them. They quickly got to the door and Emily opened the door quickly also as Robin also ran out into the alley, again prepared to swing at anything that moved. He didn't see anything in the alley and signaled Emily to come out.

"We should find help at the police department," Robin told her. She smiled and pulled out her map of Raccoon City from her backpack and handed it to him. He smiled also and they went back into the supply room and closed the door before looking at the map. They saw that the alley would lead them to Ema St. where they can head up to Ennerdale St. and head down to the police station. They packed away the map and Emily took out some bread and nibbled at it as they rushed down the alley to Ema St. When they reached Ema St. there was others running towards Ennerdale also, while some officers were warning people to get to the police station. Those zombies and even dogs with missing patches of meat and skin were attacking people while the police fired at them. Robin and Emily ran as fast as they could in the crowd of people towards Ennerdale. "Robin!" Emily yelled as the crowd separated her from him. Robin turned around worried but the crowd pushed him forward, away from her. "Emily!" He yelled back as he could hear her screaming his name but it grew more faint as the crowd separated them from each other even more.

The crowd dwindled down greatly as those creatures attacked and people scattered into alleyways and buildings trying to escape from being the next meal. Robin didn't give up and with a few who had the same plan they rushed off towards the police station straight down Ennerdale. They hadn't stopped running since Ema St. and it payed off as the police were there to welcome them. Two officers from the group led them into the police station.

"You guys are the first civilians we've seen since the outbreak." An officer mentioned to them as they led them to the right and through a set of doors into a hall with a pop machine, a few plants, and a some benches. "You all can sit here while we tell Chief Irons we found some survivors." "Wait," One of the others said before the officer could turn around. "What is your name?" She asked. The officer smiled and replied, "My name is Ed."
