Captain Woods story

Captain Woods sat in the truck, his knuckles were white with silent rage, what the hell was the Major doing? Where was he going? He seemed to have some idea of were they were heading, but he wasn’t forthcoming with any information.

He had first met the Major some years ago when he investigated a downed helicopter, he found the Major lying near the wreckage, badly wounded, but alive. The Major was holding a briefcase and would not let it out of his hand, not even when his rescuers had snapped his dislocated shoulder back into place, the Major still had the briefcase, and to this day, Woods had never seen what was inside.

Everyone had heard the stories that the dead rising was part of some crazy, military experiment that had gotten out of control, he had never believed it, but when he had met the Major he had started to wonder. He was a very shadowy figure. Was he part of some secret project? Woods had decided that he would watch this man very carefully. There were a great many questions about him, like where had he got those scars down the right side of his face, they looked suspiciously like claw marks, and Woods had noticed some odd scarring on his shoulder when he had reset it. It looked like a bite mark, but that couldn’t be, could it? No - one had ever survived a bite from one of those things, had they?

All that aside, right now he wanted to put a bullet in that yellow bastard’s brain, Woods had always considered himself to be a good officer, and there was no way that he would have run out on his men, but when the stenchies had arrived he had glimpsed the Major and a handful of soldiers running toward the trucks. He knew that he could not let the Major out of his sight, just in case he was part of some secret project. If he was, he would force him to terminate the programme and end this madness.

Woods could still hear the odd gunshot in the far distance but they were few and far between now. He had wanted to stop when, in the side view mirror he had seen a young boy, he couldn’t have been more than 12 years old, running towards some trees, the Major had refused.

How dare he? How dare he run and leave people to die like that, the son of a bitch hadn’t even given a backward glance, he showed no emotion at all, Woods wondered how many people had been left to die. He fervently hoped that at least some of his men had got away, but he doubted it.

In his own mind Woods knew that if he found out the Major was not part of any project, he could happily kill this guy without a moments hesitation…………
