- Load your image.
- In the right side, under Layers, your image appears listed as Background, with a lock on its right.
Double click the lock to unlock it and click Ok. Now it will be named Layer 0. - Go to the Channels tab, click Create new Channel. That will add a black image named Alpha1.
It will deselect the other four Channel layers, so click the boxes to re check them back in. - Make sure Alpha1 is selected/highlighted. Now use the Eraser Tool on the area you want displayed.
- Now save your targa with 32bits/pixel. (Go to Save as... Choose .tga.... Save... and select 32bits/pixel)
These are the basic steps that are needed to create an invisible background in Photoshop CS6.
They are still overly complicated in my opinion, so i suggest you just use GIMP and follow the steps in this other tutorial.
If you are familiar with the rest of Photoshops tools, you can use the Quick Selection Tool and its Refine Edge options.
